Selecting Text using Keyboard Commands:
Have you ever tried to select text with the mouse and can't get the correct amount?
The next time this happens hold down the Shift key and press the left or right arrow to increase or decrease the selection. This also works with any of the navigation keys such as the Up or Down arrows and the PageUp and PageDown keys.

Selecting blocks of text with the Alt key:
When selecting text, MSWord automatically selects entire lines when you click and drag down through the text. If you would like to select a block of text that contains a portion of multiple lines (see sample), hold down the Alt key while dragging to select the block of text. This is especially helpful when editing a document that contains an overuse of tabs as shown in the sample.
